Matt Crampton retires after 13 years with British Cycling

Long-serving British track sprinter Matt Crampton has announced his retirement.

The 30-year-old joined British Cycling's Olympic programme in 2003 and went on to win a European title in 2011, world silver medals in 2009 and 2011 and a Commonwealth silver in 2006.

Crampton missed out on selection for this year's Olympic Games due to injury.

He said: "I am extremely proud of all I have achieved throughout my career. I have taken the decision that now is the right time for me to retire from professional cycling in order to enable me to pursue new challenges and develop myself in other ways."

Former team-mate Sir Chris Hoy said: "Matt was one of the hardest-working, consistent and well-liked members of the team over the last decade.
