Kiera Byland has been tipped for big success at this summer's Special Olympics GB National Games and she can't wait for the event to begin later this week.

Kiera Byland hopes she can continue to inspire when she takes part in the 10th edition of the Special Olympics GB National Games.

The multi-sport event in Sheffield, from August 8 to 11, will feature more than 2,500 athletes with intellectual [learning] disabilities from across England, Scotland and Wales.

The Special Olympics Torch of Hope was lit in Much Wenlock earlier this week, beginning a 200-mile journey to the Yorkshire city, where the events get underway after the star-studded opening ceremony at Bramall Lane, home of Sheffield United football club.

Teenager Byland was one of the stars of the 2015 Special Olympics World Games in Los Angeles, with the Bolton-based cyclist coming back from California as a triple gold-medal winner.

"I'm really up for it and excited. I've done some small nationals here at Tameside, but this is my first big nationals and it's exciting for me to have a good go, and hopefully get some medals," Byland told Sky Sports News.

"It's nice to see people go 'Okay, I can try that because you've done it'. I'd love to be an inspiration to those people."
