Geraint Thomas has been selected to lead Team Sky at the Tour of Britain next month.

The Welshman briefly wore the yellow jersey at this year's Tour de France after winning the opening time trial.

Thomas will be joined in the Sky team by former world champion Michal Kwiatkowski who earlier this year won the prestigious Milan-San Remo one-day classic.

The Polish rider also played a starring role in Chris Froome's Tour de France victory last month.

Thomas and Kwiatkowski are joint team leaders and will be assisted by Olympic champion Owain Doull and former world time trial champion Vasil Kiryienka.

Sprinter and Olympic gold medallist at Rio 2016, Elia Viviani, is also involved.

Completing the squad is Londoner Tao Geoghegan Hart who has enjoyed an impressive first year with Team Sky.

The race starts on Sunday, September 3, in Edinburgh and will finish a week later on September 10 in Cardiff.

One of the highlights of the week-long event will be the time trial in Tendring, on Thursday, September 7.
