Primoz Roglic held off the challenge of Team Sky's Egan Bernal to win the Tour de Romandie.

Roglic, a former ski jump champion, has emerged as an all-round road cycling talent over the last three years and secured his second WorldTour victory of the season after also winning the Tour of the Basque Country.

Roglic (Lotto-NL Jumbo) had been in front since the second stage and, after losing a few seconds to Bernal in Friday's time-trial, managed to hold off the Colombian on Saturday's exacting queen stage.

An eight-second advantage appeared slim but the final stage was the easiest of the week and ended in a bunch sprint which was won by Germany's Pascal Ackermann for the Bora-Hansgrohe team.

But Roglic was comfortably able to keep tabs on Bernal in the peloton and cross the line to maintain his lead.

Richie Porte finished third overall for BMC Racing, some 35 seconds adrift of the new champion, who was a stage winner at the Tour de France in 2017.

Final stage result:

1 Pascal Ackermann (Ger) Bora-Hansgrohe 4hr 09min 51sec
2 Michael Morkov (Den) Quick-Step Floors all same time
3 Roberto Ferrari (Ita) UAE-Team Emirates
4 Timothy Dupont (Fra) Wanty-Groupe Gobert
5 Rudiger Selig (Ger) Bora-Hansgrohe

Overall standings:

1 Primoz Roglic (Slo) Lotto NL-Jumbo 17hr 09min 00sec
2 Egan Bernal (Col) Team Sky +8s
3 Richie Porte (Aus) BMC Racing +35s
4 Jakob Fuglsang (Den) Astana +1:16
5 Rui Costa (Por) UAE-Team Emirates +1:23
