Team Sky’s Peter Kennaugh retained his overall lead of the Criterium du Dauphine as Nacer Bouhanni sprinted to victory on stage two.
Bouhanni (Cofidis) produced a searing burst of speed to beat Samuel Dumoulin (Ag2r-La Mondiale) into second place and Sacha Modolo (Lampre-Merida) into third in Parc des Oiseaux Villars-les-Dombes.
Kennaugh finished safely in the peloton but saw his advantage at the top of the general cut from six seconds to two after second-placed Modolo collected four bonus seconds for his podium finish on the day.
Bouhanni is also two seconds back in third after collecting 10 seconds for the win.
Chris Froome (Team Sky) finished safely in the peloton in 47th place to remain 12 seconds off the yellow jersey. His main rival for overall victory, Vincenzo Nibali (Astana), is on the same time after crossing the line in 43rd.
The race continues on Tuesday with a 24.5km team time trial from Roanne to Montagny.
