Jets safety to miss Cincinnati date

New York Jets safety Eric Smith has seen his one-game suspension upheld and will now miss this weekend's showdown with Cincinnati. Smith was hit with the ban, and fined $50,000, following a helmet-to-helmet hit on Arizona receiver Anquan Boldin who was in a defenceless position at the time of impact. The incident occurred during the Jets' 56-35 victory on September 28. The Jets decided to appeal the punishment, but have now seen their case rejected. "His suspension was upheld, the suspension and fine was upheld," Jets coach Eric Mangini explained. "He will be out this week. "We had plans in place and things that we worked on from when we first learned about that, so we'll just proceed along that path." Boldin has subsequently undergone surgery to repair a sinus fracture sustained in the clash and missed the Cardinals' game against the Buffalo Bills last Sunday.
