Geneva will host the first World Cup of Tennis in 2018 when the Davis Cup and Fed Cup finals will be played at the same event.
The International Tennis Federation (ITF) confirmed on Wednesday that the Swiss city had been chosen from a six-strong shortlist that also included Copenhagen, Miami, Istanbul, Turin and Wuhan in China.
The hard court event is scheduled be held at Geneva's Palexpo convention centre for three years from November 2018.
The governing body's full reform package will still need to be signed off at the ITF's Annual General Meeting in Vietnam next month.
ITF plans would see the season-ending event run for three years and it could also include the semi-finals of the Fed Cup, meaning the competition would expand from eight teams to 16.
"Change is needed to ensure that we maximise the full potential of these iconic and historic competitions," said ITF president David Haggerty.
"The creation of the World Cup of Tennis finals is at the heart of a series of reforms that represent the most significant changes in the history of Davis Cup and Fed Cup.
"We've consulted widely and listened carefully, and believe we will deliver an exceptional new event for fans, players and nations.
"All six cities were highly capable and presented outstanding bids, and each would have been an excellent choice. In the end, the board felt that Geneva offered the best conditions for hosting this exciting and innovative new event, and will deliver a truly world-class event."
