As Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer face each other for the sixth time at the US Open, we look back at their previous Flushing Meadows encounters.

No tournament has hosted more matches between these two than the US Open. Between 2007 and 2011 the world No 1 and 2 faced off five times at Flushing Meadows, and it is Federer who leads the head-to-head record 3-2.

2007 Final - Federer 7-6 7-6 6-4

Djokovic was the young pretender in his first meeting with Federer in New York. The Swiss was already a 10-time Grand Slam champion when he stepped onto the Arthur Ashe court, while for the Serb it was his first major final. The gulf in experience was highlighted when Djokovic squandered seven set points to lose the first two sets, and Federer closed the match out with ease to win his fourth successive US Open title.

The following year the two were back, this time at the semi-final stage. Djokovic was more savvy on this occasion, and levelled the match at a set apiece when he broke Federer on his third set point. But when the Swiss took the third set 7-5, the pressure again told on Djokovic, as Federer broke him five times and hit 51 winners on his way to victory. Federer would go on to be crowned US Open champion for a record fifth consecutive time.

It must have felt like a bad case of deja-vu for Djokovic when he again ran into the Federer in the semi-finals. The match was remembered not so much for the straight sets win for the Swiss, but for one of the most brilliant shots the game has ever seen. The now famous "hot-dog" shot, where Federer retrieved a Djokovic lob by hitting a winner from between his legs, remains one of the most talked about moments in US Open history.

2010 Semi-Final - Djokovic 5-7 6-1 5-7 6-2 7-5

Djokovic could have been forgiven for giving up before he even started in 2010, such was Federer's dominance over him at the US Open. But this match was to be a different prospect. The momentum in the match swung back and forth, as Djokovic responded to losing the first set by demolishing Federer in the second. Back came the Swiss to take the third, but Djokovic again rallied to send it to a decider. The Serb saved two match points on his own serve before dramatically snatching victory by breaking Federer, securing victory with a 22-shot rally to finally beat the five-time champion.

If 2010 was good, then the 2011 meeting was sublime. It initially looked as though Federer would have his revenge as he raced into a two set lead. But again Djokovic was not to be beaten. He broke Federer early in the third set to kickstart an unlikely comeback as the match went the distance for the second successive year. Federer had the win in his grasp when serving at 5-3 up, but uncharacteristically he faltered. With both match points saved, Djokovic went on to win the next four games and beat Federer for a second time. He would go on to win his only US Open title that year.
