Sharp finished behind Arzhakova in the 800 metres in Helsinki in June last year, but the Russian athletics federation has confirmed its athlete had shown "abnormal haemoglobin profile in her biological passport".
Arzhakova's results from July 12, 2011, have therefore been ruled out which means she will be stripped of the European 800m title she won last summer, with her ban beginning on January 29 this year.
Sharp, 22, reacted to the news on social networking site Twitter, saying she felt "sick" after being robbed of her place on top of the podium.
The Scot said: "Just woken up to the news I will be upgraded to European Champion from last year as a result of Arzhakova's ban #cleansport #drugcheatsout
"It makes me sick that I was denied the opportunity to do a lap of honour and stand on the top of the podium with my national anthem playing
"And not to forget my European under 23 bronze from 2011 should now be silver. Thanks to everyone for your messages."
