Mo Farah and Usain Bolt are two of the finalists for the 2013 World Athlete of the Year award. Bohdan Bondarenko is the other.

Farah is up against Usain Bolt and Ukrainian high jumper Bohdan Bondarenko for the IAAF accolade, with the winner to be announced at the World Athletics Gala in Monaco on November 16.

The double Olympic champion claimed gold again over both 5,000m and 10,000m at the World Championships in Moscow in August to become only the second man in history to complete the double-double after Ethiopian great Kenenisa Bekele.

Farah would be the first British man to win the award since Jonathan Edwards in 1995, when the Welshman twice broke the triple jump record on his way to winning the world title.

However, Bolt is the favourite to win after another three gold medals in the 100m, 200m and 4x100m relay in Moscow.

Bondarenko also won gold in Moscow and twice cleared 2.41m - the highest jump in 19 years.

The last British woman to win was Paula Radcliffe in 2002. Jessica Ennis-Hill was on the final shortlist for the women's award last year, but lost out to American sprinter Allyson Felix.

The three women's finalists will be announced on Tuesday, but there are no Britons in the running this year.
