Farah won the 3000m at the Anniversary Games in London on Saturday afternoon at the Olympic Stadium, the venue of his 10,000m and 5,000m gold-medal winning performances 12 month ago.
After competing in next month's world championships in Moscow he will concentrate on the marathon, with the London Marathon his first major target.
Farah is unsure what the future will hold after that, but he believes competing in the 10,000m and marathon is feasible in Brazil.
"If I'm good at the marathon and it works well, you could see me in the marathon (in Rio). If it doesn't work out, you could see me back on the track," he told Sky Sports News.
"What's do-able (in Rio) is the 10,000m and the marathon. The 10k is first and the marathon is right at the end so you've got a bit of time to recover. It has been done and it would be great to do it. It just depends on what happens between now and the Olympics.
"It takes years of planning and as an athlete you can't get excited about it. It would be something that would be great to do but you can't get excited about it. One race at a time."
Farah clarified comments he made on Saturday after his Anniversary Games appearance at which he appeared to suggest his track days are over.
"I'm definitely going to be back on the track," he said. "It's nice when you can play with different events, marathon, half-marathon, 1500m, 1000om. But definitely, 100 per cent I'll be back on the track."
