Jessica Judd finished seventh in the 800m final in Zurich as team-mate Lynsey Sharp took the silver medal.
The race was both women's second major championship final in a matter of weeks after running at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
While Sharp was able to win her second medal, for Judd, who is still technically a junior, reaching two finals against such high calibre opposition is an impressive achievement, especially given her preparations for the new season were hampered by injury problems during the winter.
In a quick race, Judd admitted she was always on the back foot as Maryna Arzamasova won gold in a European leading time of 1:58.15, with Sharp trailing the Belarusian by more than half a second but still able to record a personal best of 1:58.80.
Poland's Joanna Jozwik (1:59.63) took bronze just ahead of Yekaterina Poistogova (1:59.69) of Russia with Judd crossing the line seventh, in 2:01.65.
