Satnam Singh Bhamara has become the first Indian-born player selected in the NBA Draft.

NBA Draft picks

  • 1. Karl-Anthony Towns to Minnesota T'Wolves
  • 2. D'Angelo Russell to LA Lakers
  • 3. Jahlil Okafor to Philadelphia 76ers
  • 4. Kristaps Porzingis to NY Knicks
  • 5. Mario Hezonja to Orlando Magic
  • 6. Willie-Cauley Stein to Sacramento Kings
  • 7. Emmanuel Mudiay to Denver Nuggets
  • 8. Stanley Johnson to Detroit Pistons
  • 9. Frank Kaminsky to Charlotte Hornets
  • 10. Justise Winslow to Miami Heat

The Dallas Mavericks made Singh the 52nd overall pick of the 60-pick Draft last night in Brooklyn, New York, to etch his name into the history books just months after India made its first mark on the NBA.

Canadian-born Sim Bhullar, who went undrafted last summer, became the first player of Indian heritage to play in the NBA when he represented the Sacramento Kings less than three months ago.

Singh, a 19-year-old from the small village of Ballo Ke in Punjab, has furthered his country's cause in the sport. The centre stands at 7'2" and weighs 290 pounds. Aged 14, he left India to train in Florida.

Elsewhere, Karl-Anthony Towns of Kentucky was the first draftee as he headed to the Minnesota Timberwolves to supplement fellow prospect Andrew Wiggins.

LA Lakers made D'Angelo Russell the second pick, and Jahlil Okafor went to the Philadelphia 76ers as third pick.

New York Knicks infuriated and then delighted their audible fans inside the Barclays Center by first picking Latvian forward Kristaps Porzingis before trading Tim Hardaway Jr for for guard Jerian Grant, who was selected 19th overall by the Atlanta Hawks.
