Klay Thompson broke a scoring record in the NBA as the league-leading Golden State Warriors beat the Sacramento Kings in Oakland, plus a round-up of other NBA news.
The 24-year-old racked up 37 points in the third quarter of the 126-100 victory, including nine three-point shots and finished the game with a career-high total of 52 points.
It is the most points scored by a player in any quarter, bettering the 33 points that George Gervin achieved in the second for San Antonio against New Orleans in April 1978, which was matched by Carmelo Anthony in the third for the Denver Nuggets against the Minnesota Timberwolves in December 2008.
Kobe Bryant could miss the rest of the Los Angeles Lakers' dismal season because of his shoulder injury.
The five-time NBA champion may need surgery, it emerged before the Lakers suffered a 99-85 defeat to the San Antonio Spurs on Friday night.
Bryant sustained his injury on Wednesday against New Orleans, and tweeted: "This is what happens when I pass too much!"
In his absence, the Lakers fell to a seventh straight defeat, with Tony Parker leading San Antonio's scorers with a 17-point haul, matched by Nick Young for the Lakers.
The Atlanta Hawks clinched a franchise-record 15th consecutive victory as they beat the Oklahoma City Thunder 103-93, helped by 22 points from Paul Millsap.
They are resounding leaders of the Eastern Conference, with only Golden State possessing a better record in the NBA.
The New York Knicks have strung together three wins for the first time in their harrowing campaign after securing a 113-106 victory over the Orlando Magic at Madison Square Garden, with Carmelo Anthony scoring a team-high 25 points.
James Harden's 33 points included a last-second match-winning jump shot as the Houston Rockets beat the Phoenix Suns 113-111, while 25 points from LeBron James spurred the improving Cleveland Cavaliers to a 129-90 victory over the Charlotte Hornets.
