Trainer Joe Gallagher believes Liam Smith versus Shane Mosley is a headline fight and should take place at Anfield next year.
Smith became WBO world super-welterweight champion when he stopped John Thompson in the seventh round on October 10 and has already been called out by legendary three-weight world champion Mosley (48-9-1-KO40), who is now 44.
Smith's trainer Gallagher told Sky Sports: "Shane Mosley has been out for a while and has only had that one fight against Ricardo Mayorga. I don't think he's rated at the moment but what he's done in boxing still stands strong.
"He's a good fighter and I wouldn't say he's a shot fighter. Far from it. We saw him sparring in the Wild Card last year and the year before.
"I think it's a good fight for Liam Smith but I don't think it's one for December. I don't think Smith v Mosley is an undercard fight on any bill. I feel it should be next year in Liverpool, topping the bill. If not, then April or May at Anfield.
"Shane Mosley is a big name and I feel a lot of people would come out to watch him box. I feel it's one for 2016 and in Liverpool, topping the bill because I think it's a fantastic event.
"Shane Mosley is talking a good fight and all publicity is good publicity. It's a win-win for Liam. He's a world champion and defending against Mosley, who has had a fantastic career and has a great knockout ratio. He's only been beaten by the elite.
"Mosley gave Floyd Mayweather Jr problems and it'd be a great name to have on the record. I know Liam Smith wants the fight and it's about making the fight at the right time. I think the right time would be next year."
Mosley returned from nearly two years out of the ring by halting fellow veteran Mayorga in the sixth round in August.
