Dillian Whyte doubts Gary Cornish or Sam Sexton will want to face him

Dillian Whyte remains on the hunt for a British title opponent but believes neither Gary Cornish or Sam Sexton will step into the fray.

'The Body Snatcher' (18-1-KO14) is two victories into a comeback from shoulder surgery and had been ordered to face Sexton (23-3-KO9) for the vacant heavyweight title later this year.

According to Whyte, the Norwich fighter is unlikely to take up the chance and although he'd be happy for former Anthony Joshua victim Gary Cornish (23-1-KO12) on the undercard of Ricky Burns v Kiryl Relikh to replace him, he isn't convinced the Scot will be keen either.

Whyte told Sky Sports: "I would love to fight Gary Cornish up in Scotland for the British title. I think Eddie has already made some sort of contact about that fight but I think Cornish is fighting some nobody for the Commonwealth title.

"Eddie has approached him about fighting me. He'd get more money in a bigger fight. Financially it's better for both of us and would be a massive fight in Scotland if we could make it for the British title.

"I don't think Cornish wants to get banged out again. I think he's going to fight for the Commonwealth and I don't blame him because if he fights me, he's going to get knocked out and he doesn't want to do that in front of his own fans.

"As for Sam 'The Lamb' Sexton; he is a coward. He's just scared. It's because he doesn't live right and he doesn't prepare right or take his boxing career seriously, he's not ready.

"He's just trying to get more time to prepare. How can he put a time limit on his hand being okay in three weeks if he's still injured? It doesn't make any sense."

Whyte, who was defeated in a classic British title clash with Joshua back in December, was last in action in July when comfortably outpointing David Allen (9-1-1-KO6) over 10 rounds in Leeds.

The 32-year-old Sexton has not fought outside of Norwich since 2012, when he was knocked out by David Price in Liverpool. His only other career defeats came at the hands of Dereck Chisora.
