The British Boxing Board of Control have confirmed they will discuss Tyson Fury's boxing licence at their regular meeting on October 12.

The WBA Super and WBO world heavyweight champion recently withdrew from a scheduled rematch with Wladimir Klitschko and it subsequently emerged he had reportedly tested positive for a recreational drug during a Voluntary Anti-Doping Association test.

With Fury (25-0-KO18) also admitting he is fighting depression and repeatedly threatening to retire, BBBofC chief Robert Smith told Sky Sports: "The British Boxing Board of Control will hold their usual board meeting next week, where Tyson Fury's licence will be discussed amongst other things [including the death of Mike Towell].

"There is a clear difference between the board and the bodies.

"The Board governs whether Fury and others here box, whereas the bodies are 'sanctioning' bodies who will decide on the future of their belts/championships.

"We are chasing a response from the WBO and WBA as well."
