Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez has confirmed he underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right knee which will keep him out of the ring for up to a month.

Canelo had the operation in Guadalajara, Mexico and posted a picture on Instagram of himself on a hospital bed with the words: "I had to undergo an arthroscopy surgery to repair the internal femoral cartilage and eliminate a pathological fold of my right knee.

"Thanks for worrying!! And in three to four weeks I'll be like new."

The surgery comes after the Mexican withdrew from his May 5 rematch with Gennady Golovkin in Las Vegas following his failed drug tests.

The 27-year-old is due to appear at a Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) disciplinary hearing on April 18 after he had twice tested positive for clenbuterol in February.

Canelo, who is under temporary suspension by the organisation, has blamed the positive samples on contaminated meat in his homeland but faces a longer ban from the NSAC.
