Daniel Jacobs believes he can upset the odds by knocking out Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez in this weekend's huge middleweight unification clash, says promoter Eddie Hearn.
Jacobs will put his IBF middleweight crown on the line against WBA and WBC champion Canelo in the early hours of Sunday morning at the T-Mobile Arena, live on Sky Sports.
Canelo has lost just once in 54 fights, on points, but New Yorker Jacobs is convinced he can be the first to stop the Mexican pound-for-pound star.
"Danny knows he's got to go above and beyond in this fight to win," Hearn told Sky Sports. "90 percent of the support in the arena is going to be for Canelo. The noise is going to be out of this world.
"I think in Danny Jacobs' mind, he's got one eye on the knockout, I really do. I know we've seen Canelo go 24 rounds with Triple G, he's got a great chin, but Danny fights in explosive spurts and he really believes that he can stop Canelo on Saturday.
"When I signed him, probably two years ago, he said 'the fight I want is Canelo'. And as you do, I said 'yeah, I'll deliver you that' and you hope that you can. I always thought he was a great candidate for that fight.
"When he won the world title, you think, 'OK, big unification fight, everybody push the fight' - and fair play to Canelo and Oscar De La Hoya, they could have taken a much easier fight.
"People in the business say this is a tough stylistic fight for Canelo. He's struggled in the past against people that can move, whether it's Austin Trout or [Erislandy] Lara, those kind of guys.
"Danny can do a bit of everything - he moves well and can stay in the pocket, he can fight in the pocket, he can punch. Obviously he has the size on Canelo.
"This is a really intriguing match-up. I know that, internally, Oscar and Golden Boy know that this is a crunch moment for Canelo's career."
