Flyweight confident he can go all the way in Ankara

Birmingham flyweight Khalid Yafai has set his sights on a golden moment at the European Championships in Ankara. Yafai had to settle for silver 12 months ago, however he is determined to go one better this time around. And although the 22-year-old faces a tough opener against Ireland's Michael Conlon on Saturday, Yafai is confident he can deliver. "It's all about turning silver into gold and for me personally that would be perfect preparation going into the worlds later this year," he said. "I can't wait to get the chance to qualify for London. Everybody assumes you're going to the Olympics but they don't know how hard it is to get there. "The Europeans will get me closer to that goal. My build-up couldn't have gone any better. I believe I am the best in Europe and I plan to prove it." Five British fighters will be in action on Friday, including Thomas Stalker, who is bidding to prove a point at his new 64kg weight. Commonwealth Games champion Stalker said: "There's no one in the world I feel I can't beat. I fully intend to come home with a medal." Stalker starts against Dimitrijs Gutmans of Latvia, while heavyweight Danny Price faces a tricky opener against Russian Abdulkhamid Nurmagomedov.
