Haye vs Bellew: David Haye believes Tony Bellew 'ate pies' to become a heavyweight
Saturday 4 March 2017 10:18, UK
David Haye suggests Tony Bellew has been eating "loads of pies" for his move up to heavyweight.
The former two-weight world champion took one final dig at his bitter rival ahead of their Sky Sports Box Office fight on Saturday night.
Haye came in at 16st 9oz and Bellew 15st 3lbs 8oz at The O2 weigh-in, with less than a stone between them.
'Bomber' suggested the gap was smaller than many expected but the Londoner had his own view on how the current WBC cruiserweight king had hit a career-high weight.
"I look like I used to as a cruiserweight but I am a solid stone-and-a-half heavier," he told Sky Sports News HQ.
"It is a healthy place to be. I used to fight at 14st 4lbs so I have put on lots of usable muscles.
"He's obviously just eaten loads of pies to get up to heavyweight and I haven't. I've done it very slowly, very methodically, worked daily, in and out, watched what I have eaten.
"My diet is actually tighter than it was when I was cruiserweight."
Haye will be making his ninth appearance as a heavyweight and believes no matter what the weight is, Bellew is entering the unknown.
"He will find out what it's like being hit by a heavyweight - he has never been hit by one before," he said.
"He may have employed a few sparring partners but none of them punch like I do, so it is a whole different sport.
"Heavyweight punchers, particularly fast, explosive ones like me, make it a different sport. You don't know what you know and he won't know the power."
