It's quarter-finals day at the World Darts Championship with two magnificent sessions headlined by Phil Taylor and Raymond van Barneveld renewing an old rivalry.

Taylor and Barney, with 21 world titles between them, have rolled back the years with their performances at Alexandra Palace and the pair will meet in a PDC World Championship for a fourth time.

Most memorably the pair clashed in the 2007 final, when Barney claimed a 7-6 victory in a fantastic match - that Circus Tavern showdown came on New Years Day and almost 10 years to the day the pair will clash once again.

The pair have met three times since in the biggest tournament of all, and it's The Power who has emerged victorious with victories in the 2009 final and two further semi-final successes but Barney is playing with confidence and has already seen off Robbie Green, Stephen Bunting and two-time champ Adrian Lewis.

Taylor displayed all of his old magic on his way to victory over Kim Huybrechts and has his sights set firmly on world title number 17 having reached the last eight for only third time in six years but while Barney has to go back to 2007 for his last crown, the Power only has to go back to 2013.

The legendary pair will bring the curtain down on a fabulous day of darts which gets underway with the afternoon session at 1pm on Sky Sports 1 and Sky Sports Darts.

Kicking off the action in north London will be James Wade vs Peter Wright, two of the best players never to claim the world title.

2014 runner-up Snakebite goes in as the favourite having averaged over 100 for the third game in succession in his win over Ian White. Having dropped just one set in the whole tournament, he remains on course for his maiden major triumph.

Wade, a three-time World Championship semi-finalist, rallied from 2-0 and 3-1 down to beat Michael Smith and if 'The Machine' can reproduce the darts he showed in the final three sets we could be in for some early afternoon fireworks.

In the afternoon's second tussle, defending champion Gary Anderson, who was pushed all the way in a cracker against Benito van de Pas, will face Dave Chsinall.

For all Chizzy's talent and promise this is the first time he has reached the last eight of the PDC World Championship. The 2010 BDO runner-up has it all to do against Anderson, who has not been beaten on the Ally Pally stage since December 2013 when he lost to Michael van Gerwen in the third round.

Michael van Gerwen will face Daryl Gurney in the last eight of the WDC after beating Darren Webster 4-1.

Anderson is the two-time, back-to-back, reigning champion and is bidding to become just the third man to win three successive world titles, emulating Taylor and Eric Bristow.

The day's fourth match sees world No 1 Michael van Gerwen open up the evening session against another quarter-final debutant, Daryl Gurney.

Van Gerwen has 25 titles to his name this season but is desperate to add to his solitary world crown. which came in 2014. He is the red-hot favourite to see off Gurney, who has edged past Robert Thornton and Mark Webster to reach the last eight.

However as well as the might of the best player in the world, the man from Ulster may also have to fight off the Alexandra Palace crowd.

The Sky Sports Darts panel discuss whether or not Daryl Gurney got in wrong with the Alexandra Palace crowd during his win over Mark Webster

'Superchin' let the jeering get to him in his clash with Webster and by responding he only drew further ire from those in attendance. He could face more of the same with the majority of the crowd likely to side with MVG before the headline act of Barney and Taylor splits them down the middle.
