Michael van Gerwen is back in the winner's enclosure after somewhat of a barren spell for him, and he'll be back on our screens to defend his Grand Slam title next month.

MICHAEL VAN GERWEN IS THE WORLD GRAND PRIX CHAMPION!

The Dutchman finds D18 with his second dart and follows up with his seventh maximum of this final.

He leaves himself on tops after 12 darts and although D20 has plagued him for much of the evening, he hits it at the first attempt on this occasion, sealing the deal with a fine 13-dart hold!

Wright is still alive!

Wright takes five darts to find a starting double and Van Gerwen posts a delightful 171 to seize the initiative.

However, with MVG sat on tops for the title, Snakebite completes a nerveless 78 finish on D6. That took some real bottle!

Quite incredible. Van Gerwen's doubling woes continue, as he finally gets away at the fifth attempt, but a mediocre scoring leg from Snakebite gives MVG a lifeline.

Wright wires D16 for a 68 kill and Van Gerwen punishes to the hilt, converting a sublime 101 checkout on D12 to break and steal the set. Wright is walking off to the break in sheer disgust...

Wright lands another 101 finish!

Van Gerwen misses three darts to kick off the leg and he misses by some considerable distance. He fires in two 140's to threaten a fightback but Snakebite keeps his cool to level the set.

He's now throwing for a 3-2 lead!

Peter Wright's brilliant 101 checkout turned the set on its head. How important could it prove to be?

MVG averaged 74.6 in the third set and won it. He's averaged over 103 in the fourth yet he's lost it. What a bizarre game!

Wright has three darts in hand at D16, and his first strays into the single 7. However he regains his composure superbly to nail D8 to restore parity at two apiece.

The Citywest crowd go wild!

Suddenly both men have come alive.

Wright kicks off the leg with a brilliant 160 and converts a magnificent 101 finish on D12 to break throw, with MVG poised on tops. Brilliant 12-dart leg and now Snakebite is throwing to level up proceedings!

Peter Wright has been in total control throughout the contest, yet somehow he's 2-1 down.

He misses NINE darts at a starting double and Van Gerwen does capitalise on this occasion.

Wright fires in a late maximum but it's to no avail, as MVG nails D10 for a 16-dart break to regain the lead.

MVG leads with a 78 average...

As Rod Studd points out in commentary, MVG has now missed 32 darts at a starting double. For the second straight leg he gets underway at the fourth time of asking, and Wright sinks D8 with his last dart in hand to break, with MVG sat on tops for the set!
