After his win over David Platt in round one of the WDC, Phil Taylor told Sky Sports that he's feeling more confident than ever.

Phil Taylor blitzed his way into the second round of the World Darts Championship and then insisted his confidence is now higher than it's ever been.

The 56-year-old won the last of his 16 world titles back in 2013 and has dropped to number four in the PDC world rankings, but was in imperious form as he beat qualifier David Platt in his opening match on Sunday night.

He produced an average just below 102 to set up a last-32 clash with Kevin Painter on December 27 and vowed to prove his critics wrong by winning a 17th world crown.

"I think I know what I've been doing wrong and I've got a good chance this year," he told Sky Sports.

"Never mind what Wayne Mardle says or what anybody else says, I've got a chance.

"I'm confident and it's ever so weird. For the first time in my career I'm actually confident of winning it.

"That's spooky for me. I haven't been like that for a while and I'm up for it now. I'm really looking forward to playing darts."

"I've got nine days off now so I can go back and with what I'm doing now I think I'm cracking it," he added.

"Kevin Painter is going to be a battle, of course he is, but he has got a battle with me. I will go home and do what I normally do, but I've changed something. I'm doing something different and I ain't going to tell you.

"I've been doing something that is making me play better and I'm not going to tell you.

"I am okay and I'm ready. I'm going to be ready for the next round and Kevin is going to have to play well."
