Defending champion Scott Waites fought back to reach the quarter-finals of the BDO World Darts Championship while Trina Gulliver's bid for an 11th world title came to an end.
Waites lost the first six legs of the match against one of the circuit's in-form players in McGeeney before coming through 4-2.
But on the big stage, Waites managed to get the win, despite averaging less than 90 and waiting until the second leg of what would prove to be the final set before registering his sole maximum.
Waites will now face either Danny Noppert or Richard Veenstra for a place in the semi-finals.
Earlier, a star of the future was on show as Justin van Tergouw won the youth title, beating Scotland's Nathan Girvan 3-0 in a one-sided final.
In the women's tournament, favourite Lisa Ashton produced a classy display to see off Farron Sherrock 2-0.
Ashton lost the first leg of the match but took the next three to win the first set, and she sealed a place in the semi-finals after nailing double 12.
But Gulliver's bid for an 11th world title came to an end as third seed Aileen de Graaf beat her 2-0.
