Reigning champion Wade cruises through to the last 16
John Part fought back from the brink of defeat to knock out Adrian Lewis on the opening night of the 2011 World Grand Prix in Dublin.
The Canadian looked set to suffer an embarrassing defeat when he lost the opening five legs in a hurry to the reigning world champion.
'Jackpot' managed a 13-dart leg to take out the first set and even when Part finally broke his monopoly, landing double tops to make it 2-1 in the second, it still just seemed to be a case of delaying the inevitable.
But Lewis wasted three darts for the match in the fourth leg, allowing 'Darth Maple' to force his way back into the contest.
After landing double four and double 16 to make it one set apiece Part recovered from losing the first leg in the decider to take the next three legs, completing his stunning comeback with double 10.
Wes Newton was also forced to come from behind to beat Colin Lloyd, the 34-year-old taking six legs on the spin to repel 'Jaws' and make it through to the second round.
'The Warrior' had to show all his fighting spirit after losing a closely fought first set, finding his best form with back-to-back 12-dart legs that he followed up with a superb 110 checkout.
Wonderful Wade
There were no such problems for James Wade and Raymond van Barneveld, though, as the big-name duo cruised through to the last 16 at the New Citywest Convention Centre.
Wade - the reigning champion - only dropped one leg as he brushed aside the challenge of Steve Brown in straight sets.
Next up for the left-hander will be Vincent van der Voort, who finally got beyond the opening round at the sixth attempt. The Dutchman also surrendered only a solitary leg as he triumphed 2-0 against Kevin Painter.
His compatriot van Barneveld, who has not failed to reach at least the semi-finals in the past four years, also eased to a 2-0 victory over Mervyn King.
Barney took the first set in the deciding leg by completing a 100 checkout with double 10 and although King nailed 116 to kick off the second, he was unable to stop the two-time runner-up from progressing.
Brendan Dolan registered his first win at the World Grand Prix since 2004 as he shut out Wayne Jones in the first game, but Limerick's William O'Connor was beaten comfortably by Andy Smith to round out the night's action.
Meanwhile, John Henderson triumphed by a 2-0 scoreline against Justin Pipe.
