Scuderia on top in opening session at Monza

Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen and Felipe Massa dominated Friday's opening practice session for the Italian Grand Prix. In sunny and warm conditions Raikkonen set the pace, clocking a best time of one minute 22.446 seconds as Ferrari look to close the gap to McLaren in both the drivers' and constructors' championships. The Finn's time was set halfway through the session and he managed to hold onto the P1 slot for the remaining 45 minutes. Massa came the closest to dethroning Raikkonen, with his best time, a 1:22.590 secs, being just 0.144s slower. Championship leader Lewis Hamilton finished third quickest, just 0.028s behind Massa, while his McLaren team-mate, world champion Fernando Alonso, was a further 0.222s back. However, Alonso missed much of the session after reporting a misfire on his installation laps. He did, however, manage to complete 12 laps before the chequered flag fell. Nico Rosberg was 'best of the rest' in setting the fifth quickest time for Williams; however, he failed to get within a second of Raikkonen's time. Jenson Button, who has struggled for pace for much of the season, was an encouraging sixth quickest, ahead of Renault's Giancarlo Fisichella and BMW Sauber's Robert Kubica. Meanwhile, Kubica's team-mate Nick Heidfeld and Toyota's Jarno Trulli completed the top 10. Italian Grand Prix, Friday practice, session one:
