Champion adds another year to contract

World champion Kimi Raikkonen has extended his contract with Ferrari for another year, ending speculation over his future in Formula One. The Finn was under contract until the end of next season but will now stay on for another term, remaining alongside Felipe Massa who already has a deal in place that takes him through 2010. A statement issued by Ferrari today read: "Ferrari announces it has extended its agreement with Kimi Raikkonen to the end of the 2010 race season. "Therefore, the Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro driver line-up remains unchanged for the next two coming seasons." There had been much discussion in F1 as to whether Raikkonen would retire when his contract was up, or sign for another team, however, the driver put the record straight, saying: "I never said retirement was an option - that was all you guys. "I said I had a contract for next year and then we would see after that. I now have a couple more years, and we will look again when the time comes for what happens after that. "I enjoy working with the people, so I am happy, and I haven't been worrying about anything. I wouldn't go anywhere else. I won last year and we are still not out of it this year. "I will still try to do the best I can, and hopefully now we have started to find the way we want we can get good results." The news also means there will be no place on the team for former world champion Fernando Alonso or BMW's Robert Kubica, who had also been linked with a move to Ferrari.
