Mark Webber believes only mechanical trouble can prevent Jenson Button from winning the world championship.
Aussie reckons Brit won't make any mistakes
Mark Webber believes only mistakes from within the Brawn GP team itself can prevent Jenson Button from winning this year's world championship.
Heading into the ninth race of the season in Germany this weekend, the Briton driver holds a 25-point lead over second-placed Sebastian Vettel with Webber a further 3.5 points behind his Red Bull team-mate.
The Australian thinks that, such have been Button's displays so far this season, then only mechanical trouble or some other error on the part of the Brawn team can let him down.
"I don't see Button losing the fight himself," Webber said. "He's been so impressively consistent and just doesn't make mistakes. If he loses the title now, it will be down to a problem from the team, not him.
"Button has such a big lead that he can afford not to win points in a few races and still stay ahead.
"The battle for the drivers' championship is much tougher for us because of the way he's been driving. He's been so consistent in all sessions and races," Webber added.
Favourable treatment
With Vettel the only man to have taken victory other than Button so far this year, there has been speculation that the Red Bull team might impose team orders in an attempt to aid the German's championship aspirations.
However, with the season only half finished, Webber has backed the team's assertion that neither driver will receive favourable treatment unless one falls out of the championship reckoning.
"We're trying to beat Brawn and so as a race team we are preparing both cars as best we can to see who's in the best position to fight for the front row and likewise for Sunday," he explained
"I don't have to beat Sebastian on his home soil in Germany. He's only 3.5 points ahead of me which means mathematically I still have a chance to do very well.
"I want to play my role in the team as we aim to close down Jenson Button and Brawn's lead in the championships and when Sebastian has made mistakes I've been there to take points for the team."
Webber's previous best championship finish is 10th, a result he achieved in 2003 and again in 2005.
