Unsure future for Brazilian after 'conflict of egos'

Nelson Piquet says he does not know whether he will still be a Formula One driver after the Turkey GP this weekend. The Brazilian heads to Budapest still working for Renault despite coming under pressure after not picking up a point in nine races this season. Piquet had not been expected to race again after the German Grand Prix earlier this month, particularly due to reported conflict between team boss Flavio Briatore and Piquet's father and manager, but he insists nothing has been decided long-term. "It is not 100 per cent settled for the rest of this season," he said. "That is why I am going to do my job and let my father do the rest." He added: "There was a bit of a mess at the last race. "I knew there was a big chance for me to be here (in Budapest), but there was conflict, contracts and a conflict of egos between a few people. "It ended up with everything working well, but the problem is these days a contract in F1 doesn't mean much. "We've seen several cases of drivers and teams breaking contracts, and it just stays that way, so the only thing I can do is drive, do my best and leave my father to do his job and see what he can do."

Pressure

Despite the pressure to perform at the Hungaroring in a bid to protect his job, Piquet insists he does not face the same level of stress as the likes of Lewis Hamilton. "I have been facing this kind of situation since last year," he said. "It is not something new for me. We are in the top level of motor sport and drivers need to know how to deal with these pressures and that kind of thing. "If you look at Lewis at the end of his first season, fighting for the championship, that must have been even harder than what I am going through, which is only part of the stress. "Lewis must have been through much more stress than I am at the moment."
