Red Bull star happy with 2009 campaign
Red Bull driver Mark Webber has hailed the current season as his 'best-ever' in Formula 1.
The Australian currently sits in fourth position in the drivers' standings with 51.5 points after his most productive season in Formula 1.
Webber finally broke his duck by winning his first race at the German Grand Prix in July at the 130th time of asking.
In the process he became the first Australian to win a race since Alan Jones in 1981 and Webber is happy with how his season has panned out with just two races left, starting with this weekend's Brazilian Grand Prix.
Skysports.com caught up with Webber at the launch of the YouDrive@Porsche course at Silverstone circuit and he spoke of his delight of his showings this season and his ambitions to be challenging for the drivers' championship next year.
"It's been my best season ever so I can be happy about that, but as the bar rises then your goals change of course," Webber told
skysports.com.
"I've had a bit of a rough run of late in terms of not getting the points I would have liked but that has been off the back of a lot of podiums in a row and the race victory in Germany.
"Things have been going really well for me and I am looking to finish the season as I best I can."
Highlight
Webber admits his victory in Germany was his highlight after ending his long wait for his maiden Formula 1 victory.
"Winning in Germany was my highlight of the season for sure," added Webber.
"It was a great day for me to finally win a race in Formula 1 and I hope there are more to follow."
Red Bull have enjoyed a successful season with Webber's team-mate Sebastian Vettel sitting in third spot in the drivers' championship and Webber believes they can compete for the title next term.
Webber added: "Yeah we believe we [can challenge] next year. We have done that up to a point this season.
"Sebastian has hung in there a bit longer than I have but we can have another crack at it next year for sure."
Webber saw his pre-season preparations hampered by broken leg sustained in winter cycling accident, but he insists the injury did not affect his performances this season.
"At the start of the year it was a disruptive winter for me for sure with the fractured leg, but I have come out the other side of that," noted Webber.
"Early on in the championship it wasn't desirable for sure, but I don't think it affected my performances.
"I was pretty fortunate that two of the first three races were wet, so that means the forces on my body were a lot less than they normally are. I was probably lucky in some ways the way the season panned out."
