Jarno Trulli has criticised the Pirelli tyres used in F1 this season, saying that balance and not wear-rate is a particular problem
Veteran Italian driver says balance of Pirelli tyre is wrong
Jarno Trulli has criticised the Pirelli tyres to be used in Formula One this season, saying the Italian company does not appear to have done enough development work.
Although some drivers are relishing the heavy wear-rate of the new tyres, and are confident it will improve the prospects of overtaking, others have not been so impressed.
Trulli, one of the most experienced drivers on the grid, reckons the tyres are too inconsistent and that their balance is out - a sign, the Team Lotus driver says, that Pirelli haven't done enough development.
"I think something is still missing in the development, because the tyres aren't balanced yet," the Italian told
Autosprint magazine.
"I think this is the biggest problem to face at the moment. Pirelli says that this is what the FIA asked them to do, to have tyres that wear quickly, but I don't think this is the problem.
"In my opinion tyre wear is secondary compared to the tyre's balance problems, because at the moment you get on the track with a new tyre that initially is understeering, and after three laps the behaviour is the opposite, that is impossible oversteering."
