Virgin driver looks set to miss final pre-season test in Barcelona
Virgin Racing's Timo Glock appears set to miss the final Formula One test ahead of the new season after undergoing an emergency appendectomy.
The 28-year-old German is currently recovering in a hospital in Switzerland after being taken ill in the early hours of Monday morning.
Glock has told Virgin team boss John Booth that he still wants to take part in the test, which is being held at Barcelona's Circuit de Catalunya from next Wednesday.
However, Booth looks set to run Glock's team-mate Jerome d'Ambrosio for the duration of the four-day test.
"Timo had an operation yesterday to remove his appendix after a sudden case of appendicitis," said Booth.
"The procedure was routine and Timo is recovering well in hospital in Switzerland, where he is likely to remain for a further 24 hours.
"To ensure a swift recovery, it is unlikely he will take part in next week's test in Barcelona and that Jerome will run on all four days instead.
"We will make a final decision early next week. We look forward to having Timo back with us very soon."
