Brazilian says team "need a leader"

Rubens Barrichello has said that he may be forced to look elsewhere for a drive next season unless Williams display an upturn in fortunes. The former champions are currently struggling to improve upon what has been the worst start to a season in their history. Neither Barrichello nor team-mate Pastor Maldonado have yet to score a world championship point in the four races held to date this season. Williams have reacted by announcing widespread changes to their backroom staff, with technical director Sam Michael and head aerodynamicist Jon Tomlinson departing at the end of the season, while former Arrows and McLaren designer Mike Coughlan is joining as chief engineer. Barrichello, who is Formula One's most experienced driver and currently contesting his 19th season, welcomed the fact the team were trying to change and even suggested that he might help the process. Even so, he also stated that results need to improve if he is to stick around. "Williams must improve a lot for us to reach an agreement for next year," said the Brazilian, who turns 39 later this month.

Standing still

"Things are standing still. It's not worth going on this way...I'm at the top of my game and I'm quite happy with that. "Having said that, I need the team to start to shake up and I need to see differences. We need a leader. "Right now, it is almost like we have too many but not enough. A lot of people are trying to say something but in the end that is not the point. They need to focus on what they are doing. "I can possibly recruit more people, look at other teams. I can. I am a top-10 guy in the paddock who has been around the longest. I know a few people and I am calling them."
