Ferrari driver the fastest during second practice in India

Felipe Massa set the pace in second practice for the Indian Grand Prix with world champion Sebastian Vettel once again beaten into second. Lewis Hamilton, who was subsequently given a three-place grid penalty, beat Vettel to top spot in the opening session and this time it was Massa who set the benchmark. The Ferrari driver's time of 1 minute 25.706 proved to be the fastest time on Friday as the drivers continue to adapt to the brand new Buddh International Circuit. Vettel was less than a tenth adrift in second, while Massa's team-mate Fernando Alonso was third ahead of Hamilton and Mark Webber. Jenson Button finished the session in sixth place with the Force India of Adrian Sutil giving the home crowd something to cheer about by taking seventh.

Dust

After the backmarkers had been out and cleared up the dust, Vettel set the first meaningful marker as he hit the front with a 1:28.014. Meanwhile, Michael Schumacher spun his Mercedes, while Pastor Maldonado was left beached in the gravel after losing through Turns 8 and 9. McLaren then made their move with Button and Hamilton setting fast times before Vettel regained top spot by just over a tenth. Virgin driver Jerome D'Ambrosio crashed heavily into the barriers with 40 minutes of the session remaining, damaging the right-hand side of the car and ending his running early. After a short red flag period, the Ferraris stepped up their game and while Alonso could not dislodge Vettel at the top, Massa did and eneded the session on top. Times
