Brazilian will test at Sebring next week
Rubens Barrichello will test an IndyCar for the KV Racing Technology team next week, it has been confirmed.
Reports started circulating on Wednesday that the Brazilian, whose hopes of keeping his seat at Williams were dashed last week when they announced Bruno Senna as Pastor Maldonado's team-mate for the coming season, would undertake the test at Sebring International Raceway.
Tony Kanaan, a friend of Barrichello and fellow Brazilian, already races for KV Racing Technology.
On Thursday, Barrichello tweeted a picture of himself having a seat fitting and a team spokesperson later confirmed to
Sky Sports that he would run on Monday and Tuesday.
They are due to try out the new Dallara DW12 chassis that is being introduced to IndyCar racing this year.
Welcome addition
It is still not known whether Barrichello has made any plans beyond the test. Defending IndyCar champion Dario Franchitti said that the 39-year-old "would be a welcome addition to the series".
After Williams announced Senna as his replacement last week, Barrichello said he wished to continue competing, saying that "racing is in my blood".
He has also said his wife had asked him not to race on oval tracks, yet there are only four oval races out of 16 on the 2012 IndyCar calendar.
Barrichello, who is F1's most experienced driver with 11 wins in 322 starts, has been hoping to contest a 20th season this year. At the time of writing only one seat, at HRT, remains to be filled.
