Williams chairman thinks Bahrain GP would have been boycotted

Williams chairman Adam Parr believes that Formula One teams would have boycotted the Bahrain Grand Prix had it not been called off. The race, which was scheduled to take place on March 13, was postponed due to the violent unrest that that swept through the country. A decision was looming from F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone when organisers in Bahrain decided to withdraw from hosting the event. And Parr says that if the race had remained on the calendar Williams and, he suspects, all of the other teams would have chosen not to travel anyway. "The decision was right by His Royal Highness the Crown Prince, and if for whatever conceivable reason that hadn't been the decision, I don't think we would have (gone)," he told Autosport. "Had the Bahrain Grand Prix gone ahead, I don't think we, and in fact I suspect even all the teams, would have gone. "It was quite apparent to everybody that we were simply going to make the situation there worse, because we would have been a focal point for demonstrations and unrest. "There would have been all the media associated with us there, and therefore I think it would have just been incendiary." Parr also stated that he hoped the race would return to the schedule at some point in 2011, but a crowded calendar and the climate in the summer could prove difficult obstacles.
