Williams issue update following Spanish GP blaze

Williams have confirmed that one team member remains in hospital after the fire that engulfed their garage following the Spanish GP. A total of 31 people required medical treatment in the wake of the blaze, but one mechanic remained in hospital on Monday night after suffering severe burns. In a statement, the Williams team reported: 'Following yesterday's fire which occurred in the team's garage after the Spanish Grand Prix, Williams F1 can confirm that a further two team members have now been released from hospital and have returned home having received treatment for smoke inhalation. 'One member of the team remains in hospital in Spain having suffered burns in the incident. He is stable and will return to the UK within the next 48 hours to receive further medical care. His family are in constant communication and he is in good spirits.' Team boss Sir Frank Williams added: "I was pleased to welcome back to the factory the majority of our team this morning. One of our people remains in Spain for further medical assistance, but we are all looking forward to his imminent return." Earlier in the day, the team reported that it expected to run as normal at next week's Monaco GP despite the loss of "a lot" of equipment in the fire. According to Sky Sports F1's Natalie Pinkham, "the teams are all pulling together to loan Williams all the kit that they lost in the fire." It's understood that McLaren's three ex-Williams senior engineers - Technical Director Paddy Lowe, Director of Design and Developmen Neil Oatley and Sporting Director Sam Michael - were among those offering to lend the Grove oufit equipment in order 'to help them patch things up to go racing at Monaco'. An investigation into the fire's cause remains ongoing.
