Sauber confirm contnigency plan for injured driver

Pedro de la Rosa is again on standby to replace Sergio Perez for the European Grand Prix in Valencia this weekend. De la Rosa was drafted in as a late replacement for Perez at the Canadian Grand Prix after he failed to fully recover from his massive shunt at the Monaco GP. And the McLaren tester and former Sauber driver, who finished 12th in Montreal, could be called upon to take the wheel again if the Mexican is not 100 per cent fit for the race. Perez however is adamant that he will return to the cockpit of his Sauber C30 for the race in Valencia. "I feel perfectly well and I'm very much looking forward to racing in Valencia," he said ahead of the race. Sauber remain hopeful he will return, but have made contingency plans for de la Rosa to take over should he fail to make the race. "We see no reason why Sergio should not drive," Sauber managing director Monisha Kaltenborn told Italy's Tuttosport. "By the time of the European Grand Prix he will have recovered, but if he has not then we will make use again of Pedro, because of his vast experience."
