Oliver Rowland will have a Formula One test with McLaren after collecting a coveted award previously won by the likes of Jenson Button and David Coulthard.
The 19-year-old collected the McLaren Autosport BRDC award, which also includes a £100,000 prize and full membership of the British Racing Drivers' Club, at the Autosport Awards ceremony in London on Sunday. Rowland was runner-up in the Formula Renault UK series this year.
Meanwhile, Sebastian Vettel was named as International Racing Driver of the Year after winning his second successive Formula One title with Red Bull. Also in F1, Force India's Paul di Resta was named Rookie of the Year.
There was also a posthumous award for Dan Wheldon, the two-time Indianapolis 500 winner who died following a crash at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in October. Wheldon's lifetime achievement award was accepted by his father Clive.
