Jenson believes McLaren in better shape than at start of 2011
Jenson Button believes that McLaren are in far better position than they were last year and have an "opportunity" to beat Red Bull straight out of the blocks when the season starts in two weeks' time.
After enduring a nightmare winter in 2011, McLaren have impressed in testing over the past month, with
Sky Sports F1's Martin Brundle reporting from trackside at Barcelona that the MP4-27 is "looking very good".
Button is also confident that McLaren have closed the gap to Red Bull and are well prepared ahead of the new campaign.
"I'm a lot happier with everything compared with last year," Button told
The Daily Mail.
"Last year we had problems with the exhaust. But we also had the problem that we just weren't very fast. There's nothing I'm afraid of with the balance of the car."
While Red Bull destroyed all before them last season, romping to both the Drivers' and Constructors' titles, Button expects the coming season to be closely fought.
"I feel that the field will be bunched up a lot more. Red Bull won't have the advantage out of the blocks that they had last season. It gives us an opportunity," he asserted.
