British summer of motorsport: What's on and where

There's plenty of action for British fans between F1 races

The loss of the German GP has left a hole in the calendar of F1 fans, but there is still plenty of motorsport in Britain to fill the void between races this summer.

July and August will see just three F1 races, the British GP on July 5, the Hungarian GP on July 26 and the Belgian GP on August 23.

But there are plenty of ways you can scratch that motorsport itch between the grands prix.

The final weekend of June is a particularly busy time for motorsport fans in the UK as Formula E heads to London for the season finale at Battersea Park on June 27-28.

That same weekend fans in the north of the country can enjoy the thrills and spills of the British Touring Car Championship with three races at Croft.

And as if that wasn’t enough choice, the Goodwood Festival Speed will also be taking place in West Sussex from Friday 27 June through to Sunday 28 June.

The following weekend sees the annual pilgrimage to Silverstone for the British GP on July 5, with GP2 and GP3 amongst the supporting acts alongside entertainment laid on by the track including performances from Madness and Alesha Dixon.

On July 11 and 12 Brands Hatch in Kent then plays host to the HSCC Super Prix with grids including historic grand prix cars and F5000 single-seaters as well as classic tin-tops.

BRDC Formula 4 will be in action

At Snetterton the BRDC F4 championship will be in action as some of the best young drivers in the world start the path up the single-seater ladder.

Alternatively that weekend, Donington Park is the venue for a BARC meeting with the Porsche Carrera Championship GB one of the series racing.

A little further north, Croft hosts another BARC meeting with the Clio Cup Series and Classic Formula Ford 1600 amongst the grids.

Or if you fancy a trip to the continent, the British GT championship will be in Belgium for a two hour race at Spa-Francorchamps.

For bike fans, the British Superbike championship will be at Brands Hatch on July 17-19, before heading to Thruxton on July 31-August 2.

And of course, in between those races don’t miss the Hungarian GP live on Sky Sports F1 on July 26th.

The opening weekend of August sees the British GT championship stage a two-hour race at Brands Hatch on August 2, alongside the BRDC F4.

The British Touring Car Championship returns from its summer break on August 9 for three races at Snetterton and that same weekend Oulton Park stages the annual Mini festival with everything from the original Austin Cooper S to the latest BMW incarnation in action on the International Circuit.

Oulton Park is the venue again on August 15 for more Clio Cup Series action along with Classic Formula Ford Championship, Classic Formula Ford 2000 Championship and the MAX5 Championship.

Alternatively for Lotus fans, Brands Hatch will be hosting the Lotus Festival on the full Grand Prix Circuit on August 15 and 16. The racing headlined by the Lotus Cup Europe, Lotus Cup UK and the Elise Trophy.

The following weekend F1 returns from its summer shutdown with the Belgian Grand Prix at the legendary Spa-Francorchamps, live on the Sky Sports F1 on August 23.
