Sergio Perez admits he dreams of driving for Ferrari, but insists he is not making decisions on where he drives in 2017 on what the Scuderia might do long-term.
Despite Force India stating in July that a new deal had been agreed with Perez, he is yet to be officially confirmed with the team next year.
"I was hoping to be able to be in a position to announce my plans this weekend but obviously we got delays," Perez said in Thursday's Drivers' Press Conference.
In July, Perez spoke of his pride at being linked with Ferrari, and reaffirmed his affection for the Italian team ahead of this weekend's Singapore GP.
"Obviously Ferrari is the biggest team in Formula 1, it is a dream for every driver," Perez told Sky Sports F1.
"I just hope that if the opportunity comes it comes at the right time at the right moment. It is so important for a racing career that the opportunity comes at the right time and the right moment."
Perez has been linked with moves to Williams and Renault, but signing a one-year deal with Force India would leave the Mexican a free agent when Kimi Raikkonen's Ferrari deal expires at the end of 2017.
"I am not making my decision based on what Ferrari might do," insisted Perez.
"I am taking my decision on what I think is the best from my career point of view. Whatever happens next will be good, but I am not basing my decision on that, I am basing my decision on my belief in the team.
"I believe we can move up, I see good potential in the team so that is why I want to stay."
