Mexican gets a taste for the podium after Sepang success
Sergio Perez has admitted he would like to drive for a "big team" in the coming years amid ongoing speculation of a switch to Ferrari.
The Sauber driver became the first Mexican to reach the Formula One podium in 40 years when he grabbed second place at the Malaysian Grand Prix last time out.
He had been linked to a future Ferrari drive before his display at Sepang, but said that speculation over a possible switch remain merely rumours at this point.
However, Perez has admitted that he has ambitions to drive for a marquee team in the future as he aims to progress to the very top of the sport.
"In the future my goal is to be in a big team and to be fighting for victories. The most important thing is having a car that gives me the chance to win races," Perez told
NDTV.
Perez's exciting driving in wet conditions along with his Latin American heritage has led to inevitable comparisons with the late Brazilian Ayrton Senna, who won the F1 title three times.
But the 22-year-old realises that he cannot afford to get carried away after one performance, even if it did almost result in him recording a sensational victory.
"It makes me proud that people compare me to someone like Senna, but I've still got a lot to do in my career to receive that kind of praise," Perez said.
He added: "I believe that in two or three years I will be fighting for the World Championship."
