The F1 dictionary: N

Felipe Nasr

Nasr, Felipe

Sauber driver randomly christened 'Fred' by Sky F1's David Croft and Martin Brundle owing to the confusing fact his name sounds rather like the grid's other Brazilian, Felipe Massa.

New Jersey

State near New York which F1 keeps talking about going to but never actually does.

Newey, Adrian

The closest thing in F1 to a guarantee of success after designing title-winning cars for three different teams over the past 20 years - Williams, McLaren and Red Bull. From 2015 enters into a semi-F1 retirement.

Noise

Nebulous term which sparked furious debate after F1 switched to V6 turbo engines in 2014. Depending on your viewpoint, there either is or isn't enough of it now.

Nose, Boxer's

The description applied to the nosey look of 2012 in reference to the sudden (and somewhat ugly) 'step' bolted on to the majority of the cars.

Nose cone

The front part of a car's nose which is connected to the front wing. Regulations have made them increasingly ungainly-looking in recent years.

Nurburgring

Famous German circuit in the Eiffel mountains that recently alternated with Hockenheim as the home of the German GP before running out of cash for 2015's race. Original circuit was the fearsome banked Nordschleife before a new track was opened in 1984. See also: Hockenheim.
