Austrian eyeing move back into a race seat

Christian Klien has said that he would welcome a shootout against rivals Vitantonio Liuzzi and Ralf Schumacher for the second Force India race seat. Klien, who tested with the team at Barcelona last week, is keen to make his return to Formula One racing in 2008 after spending this year testing with Honda. However, he is not the only driver who has been linked with the drive, with Liuzzi - who also tested last week - also in the frame. Furthermore - and contrary to earlier claims made by team co-owner Vijay Mallya - reports still insist that Toyota refugee Schumacher will also get a run before the team makes their decision. There have been some suggestions of a shootout between the three, with the winner having the honour of partnering Adrian Sutil - should he remain with the team - next season.

Welcome

And Klien has welcomed the idea - the 24-year-old reckoning he has what it takes to win. "If Force India chooses to develop a shootout I will do whatever I am asked to do, give it my best and not worry about the other drivers," Klien told the official F1 website. "When I was winning in karting, Formula Renault and Formula Three - against other current F1 drivers - I never worried about them, just the challenge of making the car work properly and racing well. "So much in racing is about the equipment you have and the people in the team supporting you, so when you have an equal chance it's easier to show what you can do."
Decision
Klien added that he had yet to be told when a decision from Force India will come in regard to the opportunity. "The management at Force India will make their decision when they are ready, and I am sure there are several factors involved," he said. "I do not know their deadline, but in the meantime, I am very happy to be part of their programme and to have the opportunity to work with the team at an exciting time in its development. "My job is to give 100 per cent to whatever task they set me, and that's all I can do."
