German ace suggests BMW falling behind Ferrari and McLaren

Nick Heidfeld has conceded that BMW Sauber are still lagging well behind Formula One's top two teams. The 30-year-old thinks it will be impossible for the team to improve on their 2007 showing and catch both Ferrari and McLaren-Mercedes this season. Indeed, Heidfeld even suggested the team have moved backwards compared to last season, when they generally proved 'best of the rest' behind the leading pair. Nevertheless, the German reckons the team will be able to mix it with those he identified as leading the chasing pack. "We are not getting closer to Ferrari and McLaren, but we are breathing down the neck of Renault, Williams and Red Bull," he told Swiss paper Blick.

Trouble

Meanwhile, team-mate Robert Kubica conceded that BMW Sauber are still having trouble with the new F1.08. "Yes, we still have problems," the Pole said. "The car is too unstable. "Sometimes we are not as good as the timesheets say and sometimes we are better than the times suggest."
