Rookie waiting on team's decision

Nelson Piquet fears Sunday's Brazilian Grand Prix could be his final outing as a Renault driver. The 23-year-old has had a tough rookie season, Piquet Jr struggling to come to terms with both Renault's R28 chassis and the pace set by his double World Champion team-mate, Fernando Alonso. While Alonso has so far scored 53 points, Piquet has managed just 19. And with Renault believed to be keen on promoting French test driver and GP2 racer Romain Grosjean, Piquet fears Sunday's race at Interlagos could be his last for the team. "I think Renault are in need, it's been a few years since they don't have a French driver," he said. "There's a driver from Renault's Driver Development Programme, Grosjean, who had a reasonably good year in GP2. There is this pressure from the (Renault) President. "But at the end it's going to be a decision from the whole team, from (team principal) Flavio (Briatore), from everybody. For me, actually, it's only a matter of waiting." However, should Piquet be axed there are rumours linking him to a possible Honda seat for 2009. "There's always discussions," he admitted. "Paddocks are not very big, we talk. "Everyone knows what everyone is doing. Everyone is waiting for the other's decision."
