F1 supremo in discussions with Montreal government
The Montreal government is refusing to give up on seeing the Canadian GP returned to the F1 calendar for 2009.
Earlier this week it was announced that the grand prix had been dropped, reportedly due to non-payment of monies owed to F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone.
Despite the axing, Ecclestone is still believed to be in talks with Montreal officials, who have proposed increasing hotel taxes over the grand prix weekend in order to come up with the funds needed.
"I think we need an answer very soon," Montreal mayor Gerald Tremblay told the
Montreal Gazzette.
"We need to know if we're going to have a grand prix in 2009. We're trying to find a proposal that will meet with the approval of Bernie Ecclestone and his board of directors.
"He's not interested in where the money's going to come from, he just wants to get the money to which he thinks he's entitled."
