Williams and Toyota under scrutiny
Renault are set to ask the FIA for clarification regarding the legality of the new Williams and Toyota cars, specifically in relation to their diffuser designs.
The Williams FW31 and the Toyota TF109 have both incorporated different aerodynamic shaping at the rear of the car, which means the diffusers appear to exceed the maximum height of 175 mm.
Renault executive director of engineering Pat Symonds told
autosport.com: "They (the diffusers) are certainly interesting, although I don't think I can comment on their legality.
"That's something for the FIA to comment on. We will be asking the FIA about it, but we haven't yet."
Williams and Toyota are not the only teams who are being accused of being outside the regulations, however.
According to the latter team's technical director, Pascal Vasselon, Ferrari's new F60 also contravenes the rules.
"The Ferrari has a few illegal features, like the (exposed) exhaust pipe," he said. "We expect that to change as it is outside the regulations."
